But when we got to New Zealand, it was more difficult than I thought to get on-line. So, anyways...</div><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjJwSjDlTKL4ChX_Q538krW6AU7RoEmSrmvkkZE-OEWZgmhJNh0j1XglAosfZupOGTc2ugYqvBxkMki4OcvoDAZ_mNYgB-3c0u_Qo1ZnbpKMwYrEcZp3xxzi-Bjf9QVRN-H0b0amZw-4s/s1600-h/IMG_0784.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjJwSjDlTKL4ChX_Q538krW6AU7RoEmSrmvkkZE-OEWZgmhJNh0j1XglAosfZupOGTc2ugYqvBxkMki4OcvoDAZ_mNYgB-3c0u_Qo1ZnbpKMwYrEcZp3xxzi-Bjf9QVRN-H0b0amZw-4s/s320/IMG_0784.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423888276806597330" /></a><br /></div>In So Cal, In and Out has to be my favorite burger joint hands down. Islands (for the Kilauea and Hawaiian) would be next on my list. Then it's pretty more or less the same for me at most other places. So, on our visit to Queenstown, New Zealand (next to that lake in the photo there), known more for sheep than burgers, I wasn't expected to be blown away by burgers. Queenstown is a small resort type town, with not a lot of chain restaurants around. Kinda refreshing. Since we didn't know much about this place, we asked the concierge at our hotel for suggestions. "Fergburger, tonight and everynight!" he said. We took his advice...at least for one night.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinqy0fGZXDInhnMq4YlY6bOq1TMNBydoqUb2cCDX89mb82nzMakBpZb4dUhmK6YcdDxO0boDyTWTe4rwkjvAzJEFN0YDofXmCqHcDdIjVjG31KJuZ8hLl9QbflMks2YLB9QMDdbnWowVQ/s1600-h/IMG_0791.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinqy0fGZXDInhnMq4YlY6bOq1TMNBydoqUb2cCDX89mb82nzMakBpZb4dUhmK6YcdDxO0boDyTWTe4rwkjvAzJEFN0YDofXmCqHcDdIjVjG31KJuZ8hLl9QbflMks2YLB9QMDdbnWowVQ/s320/IMG_0791.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423888286923503842" /></a> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPcrFiaqqzmLyngyy4aq48Rt2AIzBI6X0Z-rBooRlcpII6PJGeL6VkntJDvxm-_NStaLnJxOu4IxKOSbDZxjPzDR51gYsB_PB_jFblxrG020RYwBKdd0KIFIHNcW21fV4le1vlBdvH5G0/s1600-h/DSC_3158.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPcrFiaqqzmLyngyy4aq48Rt2AIzBI6X0Z-rBooRlcpII6PJGeL6VkntJDvxm-_NStaLnJxOu4IxKOSbDZxjPzDR51gYsB_PB_jFblxrG020RYwBKdd0KIFIHNcW21fV4le1vlBdvH5G0/s320/DSC_3158.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423888292126287586" /></a><br />The place was packed, and the wait was long. There was no room inside, so we waited outside in the cold. And it was cold! ...for spring time. Queenstown is not too far from Antartica...realtively, so anyways, cold, long wait. I didn't expect much, but was hoping that the wait was worth it. Then the burger came. It was huge! It's like two Double Doubles. At least that was how it felt in my stomach. Really, I would have been satisfied to split the burger with MA. Not only was it big, but it was the best burger I ever had. We think the local meat, from free range cows, has something to do with it. Burgers never tasted so sweet.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSodlzNnBlO27db-L9mzHnp5l_DKbzlSNl7hONAGxuTUjNoKuhYC7yzsiQMTf2IEhN1lFvxj29CPBnKUoFtXAUXGPFB4bbFyjNa3-FbBRJC2C5s76Fa0WolQd1ydOOXqJzBlSrw1Fr2T0/s1600-h/IMG_0794.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSodlzNnBlO27db-L9mzHnp5l_DKbzlSNl7hONAGxuTUjNoKuhYC7yzsiQMTf2IEhN1lFvxj29CPBnKUoFtXAUXGPFB4bbFyjNa3-FbBRJC2C5s76Fa0WolQd1ydOOXqJzBlSrw1Fr2T0/s320/IMG_0794.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423888302975461730" /></a><br /><br /><div>And of course, I chased it down with the South Island's favorite, Speight beer. So by the end of the day we were famished. We thought the quickest eat we could get was probably back in Darling Harbour. We decided on Crinitis, Southern Italian cuisine. I think it was the seafood listing that pushed us over.<div><br /></div><div>When we walked in, this place reminded me of Santori restaurant in Pasadena, until the music started blasting, then it reminded me of a night club. But then I looked up and there were flat screen TVs everywhere with the sports channel on. You kinda forget it's an Italian restaurant.</div><div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 205px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHidkPLOPVAwfaPw484S559Ol2cWb3ztUBZJeeO7ZYb9SRUX6bw_GzU4gFYcb_OBDiqJx_bRuukGoPDgX_hcW3K8c9MNOVN-4baEZW_yvUgbGCBMIfAby_uU_0BFDQekRgMhuf6x5CdkY/s320/DSC_2964.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394636550315911042" /></div><div>MA ordered seafood with pink sauce. We forgot what it was, actually. I remember she wanted something on the menu then changed it from marinara to rosa sauce, then she wanted the thinnest pasta they have. I think she's going for something she likes to order at Carmine's in South Pas. Not quite like it, but it was pretty good. Which is nice, since that makes it something unique.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-f3ZYxftPT2nizyTFbCIiN9By3ets36p0mOo_LIQUQJHp_UqSaWrSiNyvXgVAgCIw-J2n4TU1aWCLZ8xkwriJrh9qJUOV8vW69yAW3ZVy7HQMMGupw4AsVNE3NuS0Z1NXSqWJx2G9n48/s1600-h/DSC_2970.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-f3ZYxftPT2nizyTFbCIiN9By3ets36p0mOo_LIQUQJHp_UqSaWrSiNyvXgVAgCIw-J2n4TU1aWCLZ8xkwriJrh9qJUOV8vW69yAW3ZVy7HQMMGupw4AsVNE3NuS0Z1NXSqWJx2G9n48/s320/DSC_2970.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394636981919461874" /></a><br />For my dish, it was Risotto Pescado, with the spicy option. Now this was a surprise. Spicy Risotto. And not just a "tad spicy", but the "full on spicy." I didn't know the Sydneysiders eat spicy food. Look at the size of that chili! Of course, not only was it spicy, it was really a good Risotto too...mmmm (ala Homer Simpson).<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtpPcCqE7S51VvZdJ-1B5l39wEuT-aFTTwRrsaS30O3dgpDoqOrVzNThTPWzEXhwpXIPTgPXeuzqu6DOABK4et7QmxzVaMeBL4VQW8KcaFWUg9w74bl4SZjSb37poYc_ZAJo2La9DW-9w/s1600-h/DSC_2967.JPG"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 208px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtpPcCqE7S51VvZdJ-1B5l39wEuT-aFTTwRrsaS30O3dgpDoqOrVzNThTPWzEXhwpXIPTgPXeuzqu6DOABK4et7QmxzVaMeBL4VQW8KcaFWUg9w74bl4SZjSb37poYc_ZAJo2La9DW-9w/s320/DSC_2967.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394640524811843570" /></a><br /></div>Larryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245304682674134603noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615964153337995150.post-74908357417817076642009-10-17T04:00:00.000-07:002009-10-18T12:21:43.457-07:00Eat in SydneyWe left from LAX on Thur night. Got in to Sydney on Sat morning. Dang! Lost a whole day. Then we can't check in to our hotel till the afternoon. So, in the meantime we work up an appetite. When dinner time rolled around, we went to the Darling Harbour district looking for a seafood dinner.<div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSJlQpquW4IBfNTLbPqMcbU83HcwB3ENdSeOMACfncyUeMQr53EubkMWOvbGaqDEU2ggKd7fKNQ9unimn9RKASg-OLeUnF2IwgA2QNFd6AS-zuEfCT0jApuiAuqS524JOj66GDGzf9T2g/s320/DSC_2660.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5393538319927299698" /></div><div>Blue Fish claimed to have the be Fish n' Chips in town. Because of my fondness for Fish n' Chips, I couldn't passed this up. We seated outdoors and had a great view overlooking the water. When the Fish n Chips came, it wasn't serve as nuggets of fish as is usually typical. It came as a nice size fillet. </div><div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVUP4GCT1YPooK3jUsZ1HqJo-LCxwVahWSBiIyVsbcqtJYGqn10_1nlbnOO0mvqbmC7rnnhBz6pjvDcp2JSzaXtiIhVqp5DX9kWbBtsqja7zJBxGQTBV96uFqz7Sryrz6BCCYW6_Ih_Do/s320/DSC_2670.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5393538337601774786" /></div><div>Although it's the only Fish n Chips in town that I ate, I think lived up to the claim. It has to be one of the best Fish n Chips I eaten...anywhere. MA's seafood basket wasn't bad either. Beside the fish, there's shrimp and calamari cooked just right, nice and tender and quite good. </div><div><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv6MN-QO-MYWOpPgQG1qNLnOLct-N7kH6TpvuUOz_RcqOVPQAyt_y2aVe0q-a943h7Em_yqBuAg6WynhfmMDljmttJpqqZLykMjlBhVk-KnQ6XH5Y67SI1Itp23KxjDV6pdOgkTUbUu_A/s320/DSC_2669.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5393538329340182114" /></div><div>For tomorrow night...more seafood down by the Harbourside.</div>Larryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245304682674134603noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615964153337995150.post-62190496648297728792009-09-13T22:00:00.000-07:002009-09-14T21:43:44.956-07:00Eat Ice Cream SandwichWe were invited by our friend, Garmen, to drop by Inner City Arts today for their art auction preview event. This is the event that's held before their more formal annual art auction gala - for the benefit of LA's inner city kids. As a special treat for everyone at the preview event, they served what was probably the best ice cream cookie sandwich I ever had. Served from the Cool Haus ice cream truck - a converted postal truck with a pink camper and low profile tires.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje54ryO0lDc8lqNaL3dyRmacd5gvLorCGgANVVTyIJOjRkEdJHTQHeJax3ePqb2pn1UCgevw1M1_k2RphGDpyg2ugtPXPHhs3qEdHjzVbIoiUG7fmRJ7Vj8Jit9mZ6iNErGqZ4Lueq198/s1600-h/coolHausIceCreamTruck.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje54ryO0lDc8lqNaL3dyRmacd5gvLorCGgANVVTyIJOjRkEdJHTQHeJax3ePqb2pn1UCgevw1M1_k2RphGDpyg2ugtPXPHhs3qEdHjzVbIoiUG7fmRJ7Vj8Jit9mZ6iNErGqZ4Lueq198/s320/coolHausIceCreamTruck.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381190321831087954" border="0" /></a><br />The ice cream sandwich we had was named in honor of the architect who designed the remodel of the Inner City Arts campus - Michael Mocha Malted-zan. I think the ice cream was chocolate mocha, sandwiched between a chocolate chip and a chocolate chocolate chip cookie. It was about three inches thick! And even the wrapper was edible! I'vd had many ice cream sandwiches in my day. There were a few good ones, but this one was the best. Can't wait to try their other sandwiches.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEyw1NvZhwCbageqgS1DdBKxW9fOSkDCDaO2RWW4KPKXhMHj7-z5KtHEnnsRh00DRI4fiGD298k7SR8Xix3F4fcvAiA1MvmGqLD5sbDV42KrzPn66LLmjFqEZO5wu9pP-SZsHshPEDbaM/s1600-h/mochaIceCreamCookie.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 211px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEyw1NvZhwCbageqgS1DdBKxW9fOSkDCDaO2RWW4KPKXhMHj7-z5KtHEnnsRh00DRI4fiGD298k7SR8Xix3F4fcvAiA1MvmGqLD5sbDV42KrzPn66LLmjFqEZO5wu9pP-SZsHshPEDbaM/s320/mochaIceCreamCookie.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381190141184793378" border="0" /></a>Larryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245304682674134603noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615964153337995150.post-90090316667564419602009-08-30T22:48:00.000-07:002009-09-14T21:42:28.264-07:00Eat at ProvidenceThat's us in front of Providence. People that watch Top Chef might know about this place. That's what I was told.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuNe1Z8QERsvsogFXcK__sBNc71V6arNVfe8t4v7BK2AU7xzHdxo-n8s-Fid26_hslroEMnVpteTBTjh320EATbu0Z-CL5uHdGjMLvQxBCEP5f-UY5XG1sIPUQaNrhbbDFkSiQV4o8caM/s1600-h/IMG_0367.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 202px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuNe1Z8QERsvsogFXcK__sBNc71V6arNVfe8t4v7BK2AU7xzHdxo-n8s-Fid26_hslroEMnVpteTBTjh320EATbu0Z-CL5uHdGjMLvQxBCEP5f-UY5XG1sIPUQaNrhbbDFkSiQV4o8caM/s320/IMG_0367.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376001977586371954" border="0" /></a><br />I never had a 9 course seafood dinner before. Maybe a 7 course Chinese dinner at one of the hundreds of Sam Woo's in San Gabriel Valley. Sounds like a big task. How much food is there? Could I eat that much? Is it gonna be salmon cooked 9 different ways? Well, actually, these thoughts never crossed my mind.<br /><br />So, the president's birthday being a special occasion, MA took me to a nine course meal at Providence. The only thing I knew about this place is that they serve gourmet seafood...and you need a reservation. When we arrived, what struck me was that the location of this place doesn't fit in with the type of restaurant I thought it was, a gourmet restaurant in a working class neighborhood? And from the outside, there's nothing to convey what type of restaurant it is. I guess they want to save on the rent.<br /><br />As I walked in, however, I felt rather under-dressed. Seems like all the men had jackets on, except me...and I thought I dressed up for the occasion. Then again, I think Panda Express is gourmet food. They let us stay for dinner anyway, and never ask me to wear a jacket.<br /><br />So, after a couple of drinks, and being shown to our table, we had the pleasure of reading the menu, which was full of food with interesting names that I can't pronounce or remember. After a brief deliberation, we decided to stick to our original plan and order the full sampler, which was the 9 course tasting.<br /><br />You ever seen Top Chef? With each meal served, there's an explanation that goes with it. And that's how our dinner was like. One of the wait staff would always come by to explain what we're about to eat, and how it was prepared, and put our fears to rest. I could complain about the portion, but any bigger and we wouldn't have made it to the 9th course.<br /><br />I pulled the names and photos of the dishes below from MA's Picasa posting. Like I said, I can't remember the names of these things. My notes are like...raw fish, cooked fish, and foam, and eggs, and meat... Enjoying Salvadorian Empanadas @ El Caravana on North Lake.<br /><br />After MA was introduced to Salvadorian food by her co-worker, she became obsessed with pupusas. She figured there had to be one in Pasadena. After a bit of research on the internet, she found a place on Lake. North Lake. That's like the rougher part of Pasadena. If the Rose Parade went through here, the floats would have to have thorns.<br /><br />Inside, the place reminded me a bit of the Caribbean restaurant that used to be on South Lake. Not because of the decor, but probably the lighting. All the paintings on the wall seemed to have odd perspectives, and unproportionate figures, but strangely enough seems to set a Latin feel in the room.<br /><br />MA ordered a loroco (type of veggie) and a revuelta (pork) pupusa. It came with a dipping sauce and a little bowl of pickled cabbage that reminded me of kimchi. This place is like pupusas heaven. I had garlic shrimp. Yeah, I know. I don't think there's any fancy Spanish names for it - just the word for shrimp and garlic. No se. The shrimp came with rice and beans. It's not quite like the Mexican rice and beans, but it's rice and beans. And they covered it with what looked like salsa, but it's not. Sounds Mexican? But yet...it's not. And our dinner? It was fantastic. We finished it off with their version of empanadas - like a fried plantain stuffed with cream. Yummy. The whole meal was quite satisfying. Much like the time we ate at Sushiya.Larryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245304682674134603noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615964153337995150.post-24325083176022304472009-06-19T15:42:00.001-07:002009-06-19T16:32:22.491-07:00<p class="mobile-photo"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSBNrEV2tlTdcA6kbnz824kVT6nqgfNUaLAfS4IHv3OiHsbVS6uyn81XdZmn7_Yl_zPUw6UbYtKPviKrwteUUxMQmU4i6Y-zxSxdzKnRUWlRHZ1jQEp54-z4hw7GkkKhatN1EluplBYp8/s1600-h/0619091536-775473.jpg"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSBNrEV2tlTdcA6kbnz824kVT6nqgfNUaLAfS4IHv3OiHsbVS6uyn81XdZmn7_Yl_zPUw6UbYtKPviKrwteUUxMQmU4i6Y-zxSxdzKnRUWlRHZ1jQEp54-z4hw7GkkKhatN1EluplBYp8/s320/0619091536-775473.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349172925863295570" border="0" /></a></p>Went to McD for lunch. I noticed that more and more people showed up at the park each year. There was never a time in the past for me, however, that was quite like this Memorial day weekend. The line to get in, must have been a couple of miles long. And once you made it in to the valley, good luck finding parking...or just driving around. Our plans was to head over to Glacier Point for sunset. The traffic put a stop to that plan real fast. We just settled for looking at traffic as they passed Halfdome instead. Any plans of heading to Camp Curry for dinner was also dashed. Lucky for us we have a few cooks with us. You can be sure of one thing, when you go camping with MA's family...you'll gain weight. For dinner, we had garlic fried rice, scramble eggs, stir fry corn beef, chili, and spicy turkey patties. Soooo gooood after a long hike. Beat sitting in traffic any time. Ahh...the solitude of being in the wilderness.Larryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245304682674134603noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615964153337995150.post-67742699997002024862009-03-03T20:26:00.000-08:002009-03-03T20:32:41.767-08:00Levi LeviMore composite from ToC Time Trails. It's in this little corner mall that most people would often over look, except for the fact that there's this big red sign that says "SUSHIYA". Every time I drive by, only one thought comes to mind..."no thanks!" Over the weekend, Mary Ann had this craving for sushi. After checking on the net, she discovered that this place serves "all you can eat sushi." I don't really know why we went. Our experience with "all you can eat" sushi has been iffy at best. It must have been our spirit of adventure. We decided to give this sushi bar a try. As we rolled in to the parking lot, I thought to myself..."we're in trouble". From the outside, it appeared smaller than the donut shop next to it. A dive sushi bar is the first thing that came to my head. But when a little Japanese lady, half my height greeted us at the door and all the chefs yelled out "irasshia!!!", I was hooked. MA ordered a few varieties of sushi. I started with a Kirin on tap. I didn't really know what sushi I wanted, just something big, so I order the Baked Scallop on Cali Roll and a Tiger Roll. I wanted more, but the chef stopped me, wasn't exactly sure what he said, but I think it was a warning that I should make sure I could eat what I just ordered first. When the order arrived, I knew what he meant. The rolls were huge. The beer and sushi were fantastic. The highlight of the night, however, had to be the Bacardi Roll- the description was Crazy Roll on Fire! Have you ever seen sushi on fire? It was awesome.<br /><br />BSCR<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyD3LQrm2riViT5GsbBcFhScd4gjFGPlJc6ZEMLiLqFZUaP08A6AVPull0F5YwPhn73BbApIkjoR5wkMj-4eK70I_NczXTr5YaYwqBtt0YSuWnm1QZychr938RKJyoOQcg5pUv-t1BAgM/s1600-h/1213082047.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyD3LQrm2riViT5GsbBcFhScd4gjFGPlJc6ZEMLiLqFZUaP08A6AVPull0F5YwPhn73BbApIkjoR5wkMj-4eK70I_NczXTr5YaYwqBtt0YSuWnm1QZychr938RKJyoOQcg5pUv-t1BAgM/s320/1213082047.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281377789436059906" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Tiger Roll<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv6sdY7t_LJuL25kpmcmb0oG-1NqtGTYBrdMISWgalmFmwKe7qz94OSv4GqxueZMuzlUvwDCYmoHOnSzQoRwzcTOhnMyPWdSw0Sp7y6FkPStrbo828RfxFvb4tZPVXrfkRdNxGgheRWwY/s1600-h/1213082050-717122.jpg"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv6sdY7t_LJuL25kpmcmb0oG-1NqtGTYBrdMISWgalmFmwKe7qz94OSv4GqxueZMuzlUvwDCYmoHOnSzQoRwzcTOhnMyPWdSw0Sp7y6FkPStrbo828RfxFvb4tZPVXrfkRdNxGgheRWwY/s320/1213082050-717122.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280282260222790066" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The Bacardi<br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dznMl5y_BMLPIU37nzeOADH0LuoQ9Zgp_UjFlYSABZ1KWJ6HnDQx13GPVOzPIEVhd-bX0PXlkAdglG9IuGw8g' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>Larryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245304682674134603noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615964153337995150.post-88575083807941463622008-12-09T23:30:00.000-08:002008-12-10T20:56:04.016-08:00Eel and Brown Sticky Rice<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEielFMi1bTN3OPQc6LR9ADj97-C6XJC1lw-_wed7t5wwmwR2c0i3C2FJIzew36XIMSU9Fpmhf_g-LnHHDGviBONER4TfUjO-eIgwkWoSnL6_QNH91sGzd7jI6i8Vr2VjQwszjO1djg93-U/s1600-h/P1020652.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEielFMi1bTN3OPQc6LR9ADj97-C6XJC1lw-_wed7t5wwmwR2c0i3C2FJIzew36XIMSU9Fpmhf_g-LnHHDGviBONER4TfUjO-eIgwkWoSnL6_QNH91sGzd7jI6i8Vr2VjQwszjO1djg93-U/s320/P1020652.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278060761989877826" /></a><br />Eel...and Brown Sticky Rice. Lately it's been Linguini and clams in cream sauce, and Pasta Rosa.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBLfBluZ2K3OnC4308WTKAXh_m99-jPpAGgO7coq2f6w1WUoc_NUV9eY3W5R10mUfeanDzShDTaLZn_-mXPk6HUrSvYD2IOuGKXHoC6IO0HlfKrtZr0_JqZubgHSJ64cxiyBkXFTo_BWc/s1600-h/Carmines.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBLfBluZ2K3OnC4308WTKAXh_m99-jPpAGgO7coq2f6w1WUoc_NUV9eY3W5R10mUfeanDzShDTaLZn_-mXPk6HUrSvYD2IOuGKXHoC6IO0HlfKrtZr0_JqZubgHSJ64cxiyBkXFTo_BWc/s320/Carmines.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5217560410424308802" /></a><br />Clockwise: Chicken Cacciatore, Chicken Cacciatore with lots of red chilli peppers, Sausage and Peppers, Lasagna, Gnocchi Carmine, Pasta Rosa. One of the places we ate at was called Puka Dog, which served hot dogs Hawaiian-style. The dog was stuffed in a hawaiian roll, and topped off with a secret sauce and your choice of different types of tropical relish. How does it taste? Not bad. A must eat when in Kauai. Well...probably at one point it was. But at $6 a pop? I would reconsider the local Costco...if you really must have a dog.Larryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245304682674134603noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615964153337995150.post-28800908139611821192008-06-05T21:36:00.000-07:002008-06-05T23:39:37.944-07:00Birthday Lunch at the Raymond<p class="mobile-photo"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIasUZSvakhQUc6YL50nAKwYn_pHj7P5TBheK3x69BZLeZb6JzxUZoemZMwckDp5pjaLZgzGRx64-UMekJ_B2KA78pka-MzEFryZZ3edpRglP4J7UGKZysPmk0J6HjBG0DolNWP_G5XEE/s1600-h/0527081427-788722.jpg"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIasUZSvakhQUc6YL50nAKwYn_pHj7P5TBheK3x69BZLeZb6JzxUZoemZMwckDp5pjaLZgzGRx64-UMekJ_B2KA78pka-MzEFryZZ3edpRglP4J7UGKZysPmk0J6HjBG0DolNWP_G5XEE/s320/0527081427-788722.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5208623614402561698" /></a><br />All these years, we've been driving passed The Raymond, and said to ourselves "we gotta eat at this place someday. It looked sooo...curious. Is it a house? Is it a restaurant?" That day came! On MA's birthday last month, I decided to surprise her by taking her there for lunch. Originally, it was supposed to be for dinner. But a quick scan thru the menu shows that the dinner entree selections were very limited. I got the feeling that this is one of those froufrou gourmet restaurants. You know, the kind that charges you $30 for an entree, and the only thing on the plate is the same size as a scoop of ice cream. But the lunch menu, on the other hand, had quite a bit more of a selection. <br /><br />Anyway...so we went there for lunch on MA's birthday. Here's an interesting tidbit... The Raymond was a grand hotel built in the late 1800s...can't remember what year exactly. The hotel burnt down in the early 1900s, rebuilt, prospered, and was finally razed during the Depression back in the 1930's, and the only thing left standing was the caretaker's cabin. The Raymond Restaurant is that cabin. Ok, back to the lunch. We started with Crab Cakes. According to MA, it had some serious crab meat, not the rubber-like imitation stuff. For the entrees...I had the Pan Seared Australian Barramundi, and MA opted for Lobster Omelet. (Gosh darn it...I fogot to take picture.) I found the lunch price and portions were more to my liking. And I must say, our lunch turned out to be pretty good. But that wasn't the most interesting thing at the Raymond. It was the conversation that we overheard. Couldn't help it actually, they were so loud.<br /><br />There was this group of people sitting across the room from us. We could hear them as though they were at the next table. We didn't recognized them from anywhere, but they did stand out among the Pasadena crowd. As their conversation went on, we realized who they were. It turns out that the guy that did most of the talking was some kind of filmmaker. You might have seen his footage on Youtube or CNN...he was the one that shot the surfing footage by the collapsing glacier in Alaska. As the conversation went on, it appears that he was in a meeting with a business advisor. He was told that he was loosing out on tons of money, since he gave some verbal ok to someone to use the surfing footage without a licensing fee. And then they start tossing ideas of making other movies...yadayadayada. It's more interesting when you're there to listen in actually.<br /><br />We didn't stick around for the end. We'll definitely come back for lunch again some day. We might even do dinner if there's more than 4 items on the menu.Larryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04245304682674134603noreply@blogger.com2
